New for the corona lockdown and for a limited time only, introducing our Copper Coil Adjustable Torque Bangle!
Hi! I'm Diane, designer maker behind The Burnished Horse.
You'll know that we’re usually all about precious metals, hallmarked for quality but with the casting workshop and the London Assay Office both temporarily closed at the moment, I’ve had to get a bit creative. In lockdown and with a little more time on my hands, I've turned to plumbing materials! My latest design is a chunk of copper pipe transformed into a torque bangle!
I normally do all the hair braiding and weaving at my home in Lincolnshire but luckily I have a small metalworking studio here where I play with design ideas and make prototypes.
This home studio special started off as a length of ordinary plumber's copper piping. Sawn, soldered, hammered, burnished and stamped with The Burnished Horse logo, this humble material is transformed into something special. Team the copper coil end caps with a chunky version of my Classic Round horse hair braid, thread the braid through with copper wire and voila! it becomes an adjustable torque bangle that wraps around your wrist.
It’s only a base metal but look how burnished copper shines!! To complement the semi-industrial look, I’ve made the round horse hair braid pretty chunky. Great for men or for women, this bangle's fully adjustable. There’s no fastening but it hugs your wrist securely. I’ve been wearing it to muck out my horses most days. It’s a very practical, everyday, design.
The Copper Coil torque is available to order online here with your horse hair or with ours. This is a limited edition design in copper. When things get back to normal, I'll get the workshop to cast it in bronze.
This week we should have been beginning our back to back shows, Badminton Horse Trials and Royal Windsor. What a shame! Look forward to seeing you there next year. Meanwhile, do check out the online fun at Badminton and at Windsor:
